A LITTLE HISTORY
Storytelling comes naturally to Susan. Both her father and her grandfather could spin a tale at the drop of a hat.
Susan began telling stories in 2001. She joined her local guild, The Northside Storytellers League, and under their guidance was soon performing for adults in local festivals, at state conferences, for various civic groups, and other adult organizations. She also told for children at public libraries and in summer programs. As a school counselor with Master's degrees in both Counseling (Beratungspsychologie) and Education (Pädagogik), Susan became skilled in using storytelling as a powerful tool in both therapeutic and classroom settings. While still a school counselor, Susan taught a storytelling elective for 6th graders in the 2003-2004 school year. She taught an 8th grade remedial reading course, "Literacy through Storytelling" in the 2004-2005 school year. As well as telling stories, Susan was the organizer of NSL's "Bean Soup and Stories" festival from 2007-2010. She’s given workshops on various aspects of storytelling in both the U.S. and internationally. |
After moving to Germany, Susan told stories in her role as a school counselor and was often called on to tell in various classes, especially during Book Week and when folktales were being studied. She was always in demand for school overnight events to tell ghost stories! Susan completed a Master’s degree in storytelling from the prestigious storytelling program at East Tennessee State University in 2016. Her degree work focussed on applied storytelling for teaching English, performance skills, and storytelling theory. Susan’s teaching certificate from the state of Florida is current for School Counseling and English for Speakers of Languages. She lives with her German husband in Freising. Most of Susan’s stories are traditional tales, although she has a couple of personal stories in her repertoire. |
